Pedophilia is defined as someone being sexually attracted to children 13 years or younger. According to Psychology Today, about three to five percent of the male population has the pedophilic disorder while for women it’s a fraction of that.
To date, it is unknown what causes pedophilia but some suggest it runs in the family. It is not clear though if this is learned behavior, such as childhood sexual abuse or genetics. Scientists have hypothesized that abnormalities in male hormones or the chemical serotonin may play a role in, “developing” pedophilia.
What is known is that most pedophiles begin to understand and realize their attraction to children around puberty. ILS Science points out that not all pedophiles are sex offenders and vice versa, not all sex offenders are pedophiles.
Nonetheless, it is important to know that 90% of sexually abused children know the perpetrator.
Alan Gray was just 13 years old when he began to access pornography.
He quickly made the move to child pornography.
The now 19-year-old was caught as part of an intelligence-led police cyber-crime operation in 2016.
The Greenock, Scotland resident, was part of an online community where he posted things like “I’d kill 25 newborns a night. No mercy.”
Vacations To Go
“They should always be crying and never have a happy moment in their lives. They’re just there for us to abuse,” he added in another post.
His case was immediately sent to the High Court in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Medical staff and social workers believe Gray has a high risk to reoffend.
“The narration of the images in this case is the worst I have ever heard,” said Sheriff Derek Hamilton.
One of the psychologist wrote in his report that he was “not confident,”Gray can be rehabilitated.
The psychologist went on to add that Gray’s “deeply disturbing perversions are so entrenched.” Gray had 19,883 images of children in his laptop; 16,120 were still photos while 3,764 were videos.
